Understanding the difference between conferencing and broadcasting
Skype for Business is a web conferencing platform that can support as many as 250 simultaneous participants. Skype Meeting Broadcast is a webcasting add-on to the standard Skype for Business experience, allowing a regular Skype for Business meeting to be broadcast to thousands of additional viewers.
Similarly - standard Teams meetings target smaller numbers of simultaneous participants. While Teams live events may be broadcast to thousands of additional viewers.
At this time, Hive Streaming only supports the larger broadcast-style events:
- Skype Meeting Broadcast events
- Teams live events
During the broadcast event
During a Skype Meeting Broadcast or Teams live event, producers or presenters in the core “inner” Skype for Business or Teams meeting will use their regular SfB or Teams client and will have many of their regular capabilities – including sharing desktop video and synchronizing PowerPoint slides.
Viewers or attendees of the Skype Meeting Broadcast or Teams live event need only a web browser and will only be able to view the event.
