How do I activate Hive for Skype Meeting Broadcast?

This article will help you with regards to the client activation as it relates to Microsoft Skype Meeting Broadcast (SMB).

Activating the client for Hive for Skype Meeting Broadcast is very straightforward.

  1. Obtain a Hive Streaming license, you should have received one via email; if you do not have one, please contact your Hive Streaming Account Manager.
  2. Your company Skype for Business or Office 365 Tenant administrator must execute a Microsoft PowerShell command.
  3. If this is your first time enabling Skype Meeting Broadcast, you will use this powershell command (AKA “cmdlet”):
    Set-CsBroadcastMeetingConfiguration -EnableBroadcastMeeting $True -EnableSdnProviderForBroadcastMeeting $True -SdnProviderName hive -SdnLicenseId aaaaa-bbbbb-ccccc-ddddd -SdnApiTemplateUrl “{0}”

NOTE: If you have already activated Skype Meeting Broadcast previously, the Powershell command (AKA “cmdlet”) to activate your Hive Streaming license and enable Hive for Skype Meeting Broadcast is:
    Set-CsBroadcastMeetingConfiguration -EnableSdnProviderForBroadcastMeeting $True -SdnProviderName hive -SdnLicenseId aaaaa-bbbbb-ccccc-dddd -SdnApiTemplateUrl “{0}”

NOTE: You must replace the text above ‘aaaaa-bbbbb-ccccc-ddddd’ with the Hive for Skype license you received via e-mail.

It can take up to 24 hours for cmdlets to be fully propagated across the system, so be sure to submit the cmdlet well before you plan on creating your first Hive-enabled Skype Meeting Broadcast.

You can verify your Skype Meeting Broadcast configuration – including Hive Streaming – with the cmdlet Get-CsBroadcastMeetingConfiguration.

More information about the Set-CsBroadcastMeetingConfiguration cmdlet may be found here on Microsoft TechNet.
